Tech Review: TomTom Spark Cardio + Music

For the last 30 plus days, I exchanged all other running watches in favor of the TomTom Spark Cardio + Music. This is the latest TomTom GPS watch designed for active folks and runners alike, but it’s also designed to be a lot more than that. In this review, I’ll run through some of the pluses and minuses about the Spark and hopefully give you a better I’ll picture of the device and whether it’s right for you.

Shoe Review: Hoka One One Clifton 3

Marshmallow, marshmallow… Okay so maybe you’ve seen the ads and maybe you haven’t, but Hoka is taking a whole new direction with the marketing campaign for the new Clifton 3. I’ve always been a fan of Hoka overall, but the development of a new ad spot and their commitment to producing maximum cushioned shoes shows how well they are performing within the running industry overall. It also shows the public’s willingness to look at alternative brands instead of traditional shoe manufacturers. This is a great thing, but I honestly don’t love the marshmallow thing. Here’s why.

Gear Review: Goodr Running Sunglasses

A friend of mine introduced me to Goodr sunglasses a few months back and I didn’t think much of it. At first glance, I just cast them aside not expecting much from them, but then I read into them a bit more and then I had a chance to wear them. I also got my friends to try them as well and as it turns out, you really should never judge something without trying it first.

Shoe Review: Brooks Transcend 3

One of our more popular reviews from 2015 was for the Brooks Transcend 2 and people seemed really blown away by the shoe, both in terms of comfort and performance. The whole premise of the Transcend This year, i got a chance to take the female version of the Launch 3 for a spin to see how much it has changed and to see if its still as good as its predecessor.

Nutrition Review: Vega Sport

Nutrition has long been one of those items that I’ve struggled with over the years. When I was at my heaviest it really didn’t matter obviously and while I was never a huge soda fan, sweets were always a problem. As I tried to get healthier, I found myself jumping from bad diet to fad diet. So whether it was shakes or protein-only or Paleo or Vegan or Body for Life or you name it, I always struggled a bit with the balance. I think my first foray into structured meals came with Herbalife which I won’t going to great detail here about, but it did provide a solid level of structure and formed my core going forward.

Shoe Review: Pearl Izumi Trail N3

I’ll start this off by saying Pearl Izumi as a brand is new to me when it comes to running. I’m familiar with them from the cycling space of course, but I’ve never had a chance to run in their shoes. I’ve seen more and more showing up at races and been really compelled by them and was super thankful that the opportunity came in to try them out. The Trail N3 was the first model I had a chance to try and I did have some immediate visceral reactions to the shoe which I’ll get into later, but the shoe itself hits a lot of the talking points that I normally love.
