Shoe Review: Salomon Speedcross Pro

If you are a fan of trail running and haven’t been living in a cave, then you have probably seen some of the just insane videos Salomon has been putting out featuring some of their top runners and their youth team. Feeling a little inspired by this, we got a chance to take one of their highest end trail runners, the Speedcross Pro, out for a spin. We hammered them through dirt, mud, and snow and are here to report back.

Altra Lone Peak 25 Featured

Shoe Review: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

The new Altra Lone Peak 2.5 is probably one of the best trail shoes to come out from Altra to date. It features a fully redesign upper that is more durable, a whole new lacing system, and a slightly firmer midsole. It’s not so drastically different from its predecessor, but the places where it makes improvements are important. It shows Altra’s commitment to improving on what works and not necessarily reinventing entire shoe. We had a guest runner come in blind to the shoe and take it for a run, but before that let’s look at the details.

Apparel Review: Salomon S-LAB Hybrid Jacket

When it comes to trail running, a few key brands come to mind and Salomon really embodies the entire outdoors even outside of running. In today’s review, we take a look at one of their top performance pieces, the S-LAB Hybrid running jacket which turned out to be one of the most well-thought-out and probably one of the coolest jackets we’ve tried. It is made for performance and definitely targets the upper end of the market, but it’s so well made it’s really a solid choice for anyone.

Apparel Review and Interview: Altra StashJack and Brian Beckstead

In the world of running, there are really two kinds of companies. First, there are the giant manufacturers where everyone knows their name and they produce a solid diverse lineup of apparel, footwear, accessories and more, but then there’s also the niche market. These are the guys who focus on innovation at a non-mass-market level and while the hope is of course to one day be competitive with the larger manufacturers, they don’t want to give up on the values that made them great. Altra Running is one of those companies and while we’ve talked about their shoes before, they have also gotten into the apparel game. We had a chance to sit down and do a quick Q&A with Altra co-founder and StashJack designer, Brian Beckstead, but before we get in that we wanted to give you our thoughts after using it on the trail so first off, a quick review.

Apparel Review: Saucony Evolution Sportop

A couple months back we had a chance to review several of Saucony’s RunWarm and RunDry pieces and they definitely leaned toward the late winter weather, but today we wanted to show off their Evolution Sportop. It has definitely been designed for these early spring mornings in hopes to provide you with a nice thin layer of warmth coupled with their RunDry technology. This quarter-zip style is a staple in most runners outfit as it can be easily layered with a short sleeve or long sleeve running shirt in order to provide you just that extra layer of protection. We’ll dive in a little more into the features Saucony has included to set themselves apart.

New Balance 910v2 - Featured

Shoe Review: New Balance 910v2

In the past when it came to New Balance, we have reviewed only their Leadville trail shoe and for the most part we confined ourselves to their road lineup which is massive. We did have a chance to take a look at the redesigned 910v2, a trail shoe designed to be a little speedier and fill the gap between road runners and long distance shoes. This is a trail shoe that’s designed to be well cushioned and responsive while still being able to go the distance. It is a complete overhaul from the original 910 so here it goes.

Shoe Review: Topo Runventure

Once the Topo Runventure came into the office and was handed to me for a run test, I was super excited to throw these on. They are an amazingly light-weight, comfortable and durable shoe that I was ready to put to the test. I particularly liked their styling and color palette – teal blue, black and grey. I had a trip to Europe on the horizon and knew that I would be putting the dual-use of these shoes to the test. Walking miles and running various terrains were on the docket.
