We are all about finding those brands that not only produce amazing apparel but also have a great story to tell as well and this couldn’t be more true than with Janji. Brands like Janji are not mainstream, but those who know become loyalists and whether it is the quality they bring to their products or their messaging, we are happy to expose them to a much broader audience. We took a look at some of their products designed for warmer weather including shorts, shirts, and singlets.
Overview and History
First off, let’s talk a little about their history and their model and we could go on and on about this when it comes to Janji. First off, Janji is Malay for “promise” and this little company has taken upon itself to deliver on a promise to expand access to safe drinking water around the world. To deliver on this promise, they donate 2% of all proceeds to support clean water projects in various countries. The countries they support correspond to their seasonal collections and they work with artists in those markets. To date, this includes Kenya, Peru, Nepal, Uganda, Bolivia, Cambodia, Mexico, and the Philippines. Note they also started the Janji Collective which is a subscription system that provides discounts, early access, travel discounts, and more and all the funds go to support clean water efforts
Here is their model summed up. One, choose a country that inspires them and where they can make a difference. Two, research the location in depth. Three, start designing. Four, find a local clean water solution partner. Five, visit the country and test the designs. Six, finalize design and development. Seven, launch collection and send proceeds to partners.
AFO Singlet

AFO stands for AirFlatOut which is their ultra-lightweight four-way stretch fabric that is super light. What this means for a singlet is something that is barely 2oz, super breathable, and wicks water quickly. We are serious when we say light, no joke it feels weightless. They have also bonded all the hemlines from armholes to waist to reduce chafing and deliver a perfect finish. Plus, it is plenty awesome looking.

5″ AFO Middle Short
Perforated waistline and zipper pocket It is all in the details
They make a 3″ and a 5″ of their AFO short and we tend to like the 5″ length a bit better. It also uses their AirFlatOut fabric blend which means it is breathable and dries quickly. They have also added a super-soft liner and again bonded all the seams for anti-chafing. The waistband has an internal drawstring and is perforated for even more airflow. The internal pocket with bungee can take a key and the zip back pocket is good for gels and gus. Most phones are just too tight a fit from our end.

Runpaca Short Sleeve Tee
Runpaca SS Front Runpaca SS Back Subtle stitching details on the back
This is their ultra-soft everyday run shirt that is a blend of cotton and alpaca that out of the package is ready to wear. We did find it can run a little big (it stretches during your run) and can get a little warm and heavy with sweat, but we felt just fine using it as everyday casual wear. It is odor resistant and hypo-allergenic.

Overall Conclusion
Janji is an amazing brand that is doing some incredibly philanthropic work on top of producing beautiful running apparel. Their AFO fabric is like a second skin and our only wish for them is that they start doing short sleeves from the same material. Definitely keep an eye out for their next seasonal collection!
