Upper

Midsole


DNA Flash v2 is the meaningful upgrade here. The supercritical nitrogen-infused foam is springier and more responsive than the DNA Loft v3 it replaces; where previous Cascadias felt protective but somewhat flat, the Cascadia 20 has genuine energy return underfoot that makes miles feel less like work. TrailAdapt Technology builds flex zones into key areas of the midsole, allowing the shoe to conform to irregular terrain without the full-foot rigidity that plated trail shoes can create. There is no rock plate in the Cascadia 20; the DNA Flash v2 stack at 38mm heel and 32mm forefoot provides protection through foam depth rather than a rigid shield. The rear platform is stable but lacks rocker geometry; the heel-to-toe transition requires more active input from the runner than rocker-assisted shoes deliver. The mid-forefoot flex is welcome on variable terrain but the heel section reads flat under sustained running. At 6mm drop, the geometry suits a range of strike patterns.
Outsole


Vibram MegaGrip with 4mm chevron-shaped lugs and Traction Lug side technology is the outsole, and its arrival in the Cascadia line is the single most significant change in this version. MegaGrip earns its reputation on wet rock, mossy roots, slick mud, and the kind of rain-soaked technical singletrack that defines Pacific Northwest trail conditions from October through June. The 4mm chevron lugs bite consistently across varied terrain without the mud-packing that deeper lug patterns can create on clay-heavy Pacific Northwest trails. Traction Lug side technology adds bite at the lateral edges for off-camber and sideslope running. Early durability testing shows minimal wear, consistent with MegaGrip’s established longevity record. One minor note: the flat midfoot lug profile can occasionally catch on exposed roots on technical rooted trails; runners navigating heavily rooted terrain will notice it.
