Recovery is a tricky thing and we’ve all been there. You just finished your long run and the legs are a little wobbly, the feet might be a little sore, and you probably just wanna flop down on the nearest couch. However, the odds are you’ll probably still be on your feet for a bit and it turns out your feet actually need it and that is where recovery shoes come in. With all the great sandals available there is no time like the summer to break them out. We have looked at several prior including the Hoka One One Ora Recovery Sandal, but in this review, we are checking out the latest offerings from Superfeet, OOfos, and SOLE.
Superfeet Aftersport
Superfeet is really well known as an insole manufacturer and well they do make a really solid insole, even we were surprised to see them breaking out and going into the recovery sandal market. That being said, the Aftersport is really very well designed and just a pleasure on your foot. It is a standard slide and while sometimes a slide can be a little too loose these hold you just tight enough. The first real thing you’ll notice about these is their weight… they are heavy and not at all in a bad way. In fact, many reviewers used the word “love” when describing the after workout support and didn’t want to give them up. The sculpted polyurethane cushioning holds its shape perfectly and delivers solid support across the middle of your foot and arch. The footbed is anti-slip and the upper is anti-rub, so well thought out all around. The Aftersport comes in three different colors for men and women and sells for $59.95. Learn more about them at the Superfeet site.
OOfos OOahh Sport Slide Sandal
Next up is the OOfos OOahh Sport Slides and we have looked at their recovery clog before and really enjoyed it. This version is similar to the Superfeet version but varies drastically in the weight department meaning these things are super-light underfoot and will probably leave you wondering how much support you’re really getting, but you do not need to worry. OOfos has designed its OOfoam technology to absorb 37% more impact and reduce stress on the joints. The OOahh does its job really well and actually have replaced the clog in our heart as a really simple go-to recovery shoe. We find myself throwing these on after even short runs are great and also as a solid post-swim sandal for the tri folks. Bonus, they are completely machine washable and bacterial resistant. They sell for $59.95 and come in a bunch of colors for men and women, check them out here.
SOLE Catalina Flip
The last one up is definitely our candidate for “solid recovery yet still looks like something you can wear anywhere” recovery sandal. The SOLE Catalina Flip feature a design that looks just as good after a run as it does going out to dinner. The moldable footbed is ultra-supportive and stiff with solid arch support. The footbed is made with Bloom Algae which is a greener alternative to EVA yet is still supportive and grippy. If you hate the thong-style design, then you are out of luck, but we quite enjoy it and again these are a great candidate for traveling to a beach area as they work just as well at play as they do post-run. They come in 5 different colors for men and women and sell for $75, find out more here.
Overall Conclusion
Getting a pair of recovery sandals might seem silly to most people, but until you have tried a few of these you won’t know what you’re missing. A good recovery slide can do wonders for you and let your feet heal quickly after a solid run. These are all solid choices, so it’s tough to narrow it down. If you are a big distance runner, then the Aftersport will probably work the best for you. For everyday runners and triathletes who hit the pool and the roads, check out the OOfos OOahh. For total practical purposes and for those beach days post-run, check out the SOLE Flips. You won’t be disappointed with any of these choices.
