The ASICS Novablast 5 is one of those shoes that instantly makes running feel more fun. It is playful, bouncy and energetic, with just enough refinement to handle everyday mileage while still having that get up and go attitude. Each version of the Novablast has inched closer toward balance, and with the 5th edition, I feel like ASICS has finally nailed it. The shoe still delivers that signature trampoline-like rebound, but with a smoother, more stable platform. From the first step-in, it felt cushioned and inviting, and once I hit the road, it had that springy ride that makes me want to run a little farther than I had planned.

Upper
The upper of the Novablast 5 felt like a clear upgrade over past versions. The jacquard mesh has a premium feel, light, breathable, and supportive in just the right places. The gusseted tongue stayed locked in, which gave me that “forget it’s there” experience after lacing up. I appreciated the lightly padded heel collar, which gave me security without being bulky, and the fit overall was true to size with a medium hold across the midfoot. The toe box leaned slightly roomy, which made longer runs comfortable when my feet started to swell. It’s the kind of upper that disappears in the best way, secure, breathable, and comfortable without overdoing it.

Midsole
The midsole is the star here. ASICS packed the Novablast 5 with FLYTEFOAM BLAST MAX foam, and it delivers exactly what I was hoping for: soft landings and bouncy takeoffs. At 41.5 mm in the heel and 33.5 mm in the forefoot, there’s plenty of cushioning, but it never felt marshmallow-y. The 8 mm drop kept transitions smooth, and I noticed the geometry was slightly more stable than in earlier Novablast versions. For me, the ride was playful and fun on easy runs, but it also had enough responsiveness to handle moderate uptempo efforts. It’s not a racing shoe, but it gave me that extra pop that made daily training runs more enjoyable.

Outsole
The outsole uses AHAR LO rubber, and it struck a good balance between durability and weight savings. There’s coverage in the high-wear zones, and I felt secure on wet pavement and packed gravel. The outsole flexed nicely with the midsole, which helped keep transitions feeling natural. After several runs, I saw only light wear, which makes me think this shoe will easily handle higher mileage training. It’s not a trail outsole, but for road use, it felt solid and reliable.

Performance Feedback
On the run, the Novablast 5 felt smooth, springy, and just plain fun. Easy runs felt cushioned and forgiving, long runs benefited from the plush midsole, and steady uptempo miles felt lively without being too aggressive. What surprised me most was how stable it felt compared to older versions, less wobble, more confidence, especially on longer efforts. For me, this is the kind of shoe that makes everyday runs more enjoyable because it keeps things light and energetic. I found myself smiling more than once mid-run, which isn’t something I can say for every daily trainer.

Conclusion
The ASICS Novablast 5 is a versatile, energetic daily trainer that delivers comfort, bounce, and a more refined ride than ever before. With its breathable upper, cushioned yet responsive FLYTEFOAM BLAST MAX midsole, and durable outsole, it hits that sweet spot between fun and functional. It’s not the fastest or the most stable shoe in the lineup, but it’s one of the most enjoyable to run in. For me, it’s a shoe I’d grab when I want my daily miles to feel a little more exciting, while still knowing I’ve got the cushion and durability to back it up.
