The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27 continues to improve one of the longest-standing traditions in running shoes – big comfort, big cushioning and a ride that feels built to last. The Nimbus has always been ASICS’ max-cushion daily trainer, and this 27th version keeps that plush DNA alive while adding a touch of modern refinement. Right away, the shoe impressed me with its soft step-in feel, it is one of those shoes that just begs to be worn for long miles. What stood out most was how balanced it felt. It has tons of comfort but with enough stability and structure that I never felt like I was sinking in.

Upper
The upper of the Nimbus 27 is exactly what I want from a max-cushion daily trainer—soft, secure, and comfortable for the long haul. The engineered mesh felt breathable but still structured enough to hold my foot in place. The tongue and heel collar are generously padded, giving it a plush step-in feel that made me look forward to lacing up. The fit felt true to size, with a medium wrap through the midfoot and just enough toe room to keep things comfortable on longer runs. It’s not the lightest upper out there, but it’s built for comfort, and it definitely delivers on that front.

Midsole
The midsole is the star of the show here in my opinion. ASICS uses FF Blast+ ECO foam, which felt soft underfoot but had a nice bit of responsiveness when I picked up the pace. At 43.5 mm in the heel and 35.5 mm in the forefoot, there’s a ton of cushioning, and the PureGEL insert in the heel made landings feel especially smooth. The 8 mm drop worked really well for me, giving a natural transition from heel to toe without feeling too aggressive. What I appreciated most was how the midsole stayed consistent on long runs. It was soft and protective without feeling mushy or unstable.

Outsole
The outsole uses a HYBRID ASICSGRIP, which is supposed to balance grip with weight while remaining durable. There’s plenty of coverage in high-wear areas, and the flex grooves helped keep transitions smooth. On dry pavement, grip was excellent, and even on slightly wet surfaces, I felt confident. The outsole isn’t overly aggressive, so this shoe is best for roads and light paths rather than technical trails. After several runs, I saw very little wear, which makes me think this shoe will easily handle high-mileage training.

How They Run
On the run, the Nimbus 27 felt like a big, soft cushion that still managed to stay controlled. Easy miles felt effortless, and long runs were comfortable from start to finish. It’s not a fast or snappy shoe, so I wouldn’t use it for workouts or racing, but that’s not really its purpose. What it excels at is providing reliable comfort for daily training, recovery runs, and long-distance mileage. My legs always felt fresher the next day after using the Nimbus, which tells me the foam and structure are doing their job in reducing impact.
The shoe is comfortable from the moment you lace up and really never loses that throughout the run. It also doesn’t try that hard, so while its not the lightest or bounciest out there, it is always a ton of fun to run in and doesn’t leave you dying the next today.

Conclusion
The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27 is a classic max-cushion trainer that delivers plush comfort, reliable durability, and a smooth, balanced ride. With its soft midsole, protective outsole, and cozy upper, it’s a shoe that works best for easy runs, long-distance training, or anyone who simply wants maximum cushioning underfoot. And yes, it’s not the most exciting or fast shoe in the lineup, but it’s a dependable workhorse that delivers exactly what it promise which is comfort and protection. For me, it’s the kind of shoe I’d keep around for those days when I just want to relax into the run and let the shoe do the work and for most out there, that’s all you can ask for..
