Over the years, the Cumulus line has been known as a workhorse as it’s comfortable, durable, and consistent, and the Cumulus 27 keeps that legacy alive while softening the ride and shedding some weight. What I immediately noticed was how smooth and balanced the shoe felt, making it a great option for runners who want a dependable shoe for everyday miles without the bulk of max-cushion trainers. It’s versatile enough for easy runs, long outings, and even some uptempo work if you want to push it.

Upper
The upper on the Gel-Cumulus 27 feels plush without being overbuilt. The engineered mesh is breathable and soft, wrapping the foot comfortably for daily mileage. I liked the gusseted tongue, which not only stays in place but adds to the secure midfoot lockdown. Around the heel collar, the padding is generous, giving a plush step-in feel that makes the shoe feel welcoming right away. The toebox had enough room for toe splay during longer runs, yet the overall fit felt secure and true to size. It’s an upper that leans more toward comfort than minimalism, which is exactly what I would expect here. Very very easy on the foot…

Midsole
The midsole features FF Blast+ foam, which is lighter and more responsive than what we’ve seen in earlier versions. It delivers a smooth, slightly softer ride that still feels stable underfoot. The inclusion of PureGEL in the heel helps absorb impact nicely, especially on longer runs or heel landings, without adding weight. The stack provides solid protection, while the 8 mm drop keeps transitions feeling natural. I found the ride to be balanced—plush enough for recovery runs but not so squishy that it felt inefficient when I picked up the pace. It won’t blow the doors off, but they never feel flat either.

Outsole
The outsole uses ASICS’ new FLUIDRIDE which is blend of materials designed to mimic rubber but still provide some level of weight reduction. On the road, I felt fairly confident in its grip, even on slightly damp pavement. After several runs, I noticed barely any wear, which makes me think this shoe will easily handle high mileage. I do feel more confident in their AHAR+ outsole as that seems to handle anything without batting an eye, but I think we will see more of these new blend outsoles as it does reduce the weight quite a bit.

Performance
Out on the road, the Gel-Cumulus 27 felt like a classic daily trainer in the best way. It handled easy miles with comfort, gave me protection for long runs, and still felt light enough to pick up the pace for strides or steady efforts. I never felt weighed down, and the smoothness of the ride made it easy to settle into rhythm. It’s not a flashy shoe—it doesn’t have the snappy plate or ultra-bouncy foam of a super trainer—but that’s not its goal. What it offers is consistency, comfort, and a versatile ride that can slot into just about any runner’s rotation.

Conclusion
The ASICS Gel-Cumulus 27 is a dependable, comfortable daily trainer that delivers a softer ride and lighter feel than its predecessors while maintaining the durability and balance the series is known for. The comfortable upper, smooth FF Blast+ midsole, and durable outsole all add up to a shoe I felt confident wearing for a wide range of runs. It’s not the most exciting option if you’re looking for cutting-edge performance, but if you want a versatile, reliable trainer that you can trust day in and day out, the Gel-Cumulus 27 is an easy recommendation.
